C.Y. Nelson

Clayto Young Nelson Jr. (C.Y.) , age 89, died at home on May 20, 2015. Born February 1, 1926 in Baker, Oregon to Clayto Young Nelson Sr. and Elsie Fannie. C.Y. served in the U.S Navy, working in ammunitions. On April 29, 1948 he married Donna Leah Groll in Logan Utah in the LDS temple. They later adopted three children; Mark, Gregg and Sharon.

C.Y. lived in Portland Oregon where he opened and operated the C.Y.’s House of Samples, until retiring in 1986. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held many positions including Bishop. C.Y. also worked with the Scouts serving on the High Council.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Vernon Nelson; his son Gregg Nelson and his grandson Christopher Nelson.

C.Y. is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna Nelson; two children Mark Nelson and Sharon (Mark) Howard; six grandchildren Brendon (Ellen) Howard, Caitlyn Howard, Conner Howard, Brooklyn Howard, Chase (Brett) Nelson and Taren (William) Brucker; six great grandchildren.

Please join us in the celebration of C.Y.’s life at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the LDS stake center located at 3233 NE 162nd Avenue, Portland, OR 97230. A committal service will follow the funeral beginning at 2:00pm in Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97086.
