David was born in Hillsboro, Oregon and graduated from Hillsboro High School. After attending Portland State University, majoring in engineering, he embarked on a life-long adventure as an entrepreneur. He traveled to Iran in the early sixties to research and take photographs for a book about Persian History. A prototype was presented to the wife of the Shah.
After returning to the States, he co-founded Stash Tea Company along with his partners, Stephen Lee and Steven Smith. They built the company into a national brand and sold it in 1993 to Yamamoto of Orient, the oldest tea company in Japan. He continued to keep his hand in the tea business until his partner, Steve Smith, invited him to be part of the leadership team for his new venture, Steven Smith Teamaker, where David remained until his retirement in 2018.
He was passionate about many things - his family, his wife of 45 years, Colleen Morrissey Leger, flying his Cessna 172, golf, model railroads, his beloved 1956 Thunderbird, and sunsets at the beach. His family, Celeste and Faisal, Nichole and Dave, and 5 grandchildren (Isaiah, Faris, Nayef, Sam, and Ruby) and many extended family members and friends were the joy in his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, June 11 at 11:00 a.m.
