Grandma Dee was born on December 10, 1934 in Shawnee, Oklahoma in the middle of the Dust Bowl and had to grow up fast.
Her father died when she was little, and she was picking cotton with her mom and siblings at a very young age. Dee learned from her mom how to sew her own clothes, cook for the family, make jam, and farm.
As tough as she was, she had a kindness and grace about her that, when you met her, you could sense the authentic person she was and love her.
Her family moved to California where she met and married Lester, a handsome young man. Lester shared the same values of hard work and the toughness she admired, and they fell in love. Dee and Lester were married and had a girl, Gloria, followed by Lester Jr., Jerry, and Larry- who was born with a mustache!
What she really loved more than anything was being a grandma, and she was the best. She always had a Lifesaver for you, watched you play sports, arm wrestled with you, or took you to a movie. The sleepovers were the best, where you could watch movies you weren’t supposed to with Grandma and Grandpa and eat as much as you wanted. You would go to bed smelling the best smelling, ironed sheets.
Grandma Dee made her kids and grandkids each one quilt and at least one blanket. She made jam for the whole family every year. Her home was always open for any family member in need, a place to live for a while, someone to talk to, or some biscuits and gravy for breakfast.
Grandma Dee was ONE OF A KIND, and there will never be another one like her.
She is survived by her 4 children, 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was laid to rest at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary and Memorial Park in the Garden of Tualatin View in Lot 156, Space 6.
