

He was born July 7, 1950, the oldest of four children to Rudy and Bernice Ferrante. He attended Holy Family Grade School.
He graduated from Portland’s Cleveland High School, in 1968 where he was active in football, baseball and boxing. Don attended Portland State University, where he played football and baseball. He then attended Western States Chiropractic College where he graduated in 1974 with his Chiropractic Doctorate degree and was licensed in Oregon that same year.
He married Carol Speciale and they had three daughters, Julie, Jennifer, and Stephanie. They later divorced.
He began a long and successful Chiropractic practice in Portland, Oregon where he served his patients for forty years.
Don was the President of the Chiropractic Association of Oregon from 2005-2008. Don was awarded Chiropractor of the Year in 2004. He was founding Co-President of the Oregon Chiropractic Association in 2008 when he was instrumental in unifying the Chiropractic profession into one association. He served as OCA President from 2008-2010. He was given the “Chiropractic Leadership” award in 2009.
He married, Janis (Schleiffers) Gustafson and they had a daughter Jillian. Don was a father figure to Jan’s son Jeff from her previous marriage. They resided in Battle Ground, Washington since 1983.
Don’s family was everything to him.The legacy he leaves behind is “irreplaceable” husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved hunting, fishing and family vacations. He coached many local youth sports teams and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Battle Ground.
He is survived by wife Jan, daughters Julie (Dave) Hill, Jennifer (Jonathan) Jackson, Stephanie (Ian) Tydeman, Jillian (Andy) Carlile and son Jeff (AmyJo) Gustafson. Nine grandsons Josh, Ryan, Drew, Autzen, Max, Will, Ben, Jamison and Ty. Brother Rudy, sisters Debbie Ferrante and Diane Toman.
Funeral services will be held at Lincoln Memorial, Portland, Oregon on Wednesday July 9, 2014 at 12:00pm. Reception will immediately follow in the Lincoln Memorial Hall. Burial will be private at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
