Donald “Don” Gilbert was born on April 1, 1935 in Duluth Minnesota. He was the youngest son of George and Hilda Gilbert. He had two sisters, one brother and two half-brothers who are now all deceased. He was raised and educated in Duluth where he met and married Bonnie Greene 58 years ago. They had four children; Gary, Cheri, Cindy and Holly.
Don had a distinguished career working in sales and management for over 46 years; beginning in Duluth Minnesota and then moving on to Grand Forks North Dakota, Omaha Nebraska, and later on retiring as Regional Manager of Cereal foods of Portland Oregon. He also served for eight years in the United States Naval reserves.
Over the years Don was a member of multiple civic clubs and organizations including Dakota Hunting Club and Kennels (Co-Founder), Sergeant Police Reserve and 3rd Ward Alderman City Council in Grand Forks North Dakota; Sertoma Downtown in Omaha Nebraska; Optimist Lloyd Center, Sandy Sportsman Association and Douglas Ridge Rifle Club of Portland Oregon. He traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Hawaiian Islands with his family and friends. Don enjoyed all of his outdoor pursuits from the Great Plains to the Pacific Ocean. In March of this year he celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary and then in April his 80th birthday. He very much enjoyed all the cards, calls and connections he made with his family and friends; Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Bonnie Gilbert; his children, Gary Gilbert (Linda) of Gresham, Cheri Mechenbier (Jeff) of Albuquerque New Mexico, Cindy Marjama of Portland and Holly Oberg of Portland; his seven wonderful grandchildren and Roxy; the baby Rottweiler- a new joy in his life.
