Mike was born on March 8, 1945, the eldest son of Donald and Shirley (Brown) Nutt in Santa Monica, California. He spent his formative years in Lancaster, California, before moving to Shasta City, California, where he worked in the forest driving log trucks and plowing snow in the winter.
Mike then moved to Portland, Oregon where he lived the remaining 43 years of his life, of which 40 of those years were devoted to the love of his life, Kim, whom he met while working at Hercules Inc.
Mike is survived by his beloved spouse Kim; grandchildren Ashley and Austin; great grandchildren Emma, Rory, Easton, adopted daughter Dana; sister Barbara (Steve); brother John (Shannon); nieces Cassandra and Angella; numerous cousins and other relatives.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Shirley; brother Steve; and granddaughter Rita Grace.
Mike was at heart a builder, from building dune buggies, trailers, a dory boat, and of course our beautiful home. He often said he could fix anything but a broken heart and the break of day.
His working life ranged from driving/owning various trucks: delivery, log, long haul, chemical, gravel, and asphalt.
He worked as a welder, pipe fitter, millwright, driver and maintenance supervisor at Hercules Inc. He had his own business, Portable Welding and Construction, for a few years before retiring from Blue Line in 2013.
Mike was an avid dog lover and shared his life with many, Tanner and Gabby being his current pets.
Travel was the highlight of Mike and Kim’s life, which included road trips from Alaska to Key West. They drove across country many times with the grandchildren. Much of the travel was dedicated to fishing, shrimping or crabbing. Telegraph Cove, British Columbia; Hood Canal, Washington; and Garibaldi, Oregon were his favorite places to do those pursuits, again often with the grandchildren.
Mike was also a great story and joke teller, with his travel adventures providing fuel for his stories.
A private service will be held February 15th at Skyline Memorial Gardens, with a Celebration of Life on March 8th.
Memorials in Mike’s name can be made to Oregon Humane Society, 1067 NE Columbia Blvd, Portland, Oregon 97211
