Prior to marriage, Dotty was employed by Tangee Lipstick Co., Macy's, and secretarial positions. In 1943, at the age of 15, she met Al on a blind date when he was on shore leave from the U.S. Coast Guard. A long-distance relationship ended in a lasting marriage of 65 years. The two were married in Astoria, NY. Their honeymoon, along with Al's dad and brother, George, involved a sightseeing road trip across the U.S. ending in Portland, Oregon.
Dotty was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mother, raising their 4 children. Her main love of life was her husband, family, and dogs, Tucker being the last. Reading, walking and bowling were enjoyed for most of her life as well. She loved her yearly trips to the Oregon coast, gambling, shopping at secondhand stores and garage sales. Dining out with family and friends was an enjoyable event with dessert being the most favored part of the meal. Baskin & Robbins "Gold Medal Ribbon" was her favorite ice cream. She collected many types of Angels, including the willow tree collection. Dotty donated to the Oregon Chapter of the ASPCA, Meals on Wheels and other charities.
She will be remembered for being the most kind, caring and compassionate person. Always thinking of others, always thankful.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Al; son, Dale (59); and sister, Shirley (87). She is survived by daughters, Bunny (Ted), Jan (Jim), and Fran; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
