Anne was born on September 2, 1929 to Beulah and Walter Miller, the third of six children. When she was 18 months old, the family moved to Temple City, California and later to Kelso, Washington, where she graduated from high school in 1947 and received the Outstanding Girl Award. She attended Willamette University and was a proud member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Later in life, she went back to college and received her Associate of Arts degree from Diablo Valley College in 1974.
Anne met Carl Johnson on a blind date, and they were married on June 17, 1950, in Longview, Washington. She was employed by the Boeing Company, the Pacific Telephone Company, and the State of Oregon. With Carl’s job, the family was transferred from Oregon to California, to Washington, to Connecticut and back to California (Moraga, in 1970).
Anne was a life-long, devoted member of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in Orinda, California. She volunteered and served on the Board of the Moraga Library, and she also volunteered at LARC-Lamorinda Adult Respite Center. She was a member of the Moraga Garden Club, Book Club, and Historical Society.
Anne and Carl travelled extensively throughout the world. They both loved cruising and took 26 cruises together. One highlight of their trips was flying the Concorde from New York to London and coming back on the QE2. Another memorable trip was the opportunity to play golf at St. Andrews in Scotland. However, she always had a love for the Oregon coast, especially Manzanita.
Anne was a champion bridge player and golfer. She enjoyed family gatherings and time with local friends. She became a tried-and-true Oregon State Beavers and Cal Bears fan, along with the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.
In lieu of flowers, please consideration a charitable donation to Holly Shepherd Lutheran Church or The Lamorinda Adult Respite Center.
