Edward Chester Unsicker was born Aug. 25th, 1922, to Samuel and Katie Unsicker in his namesake town, Edwards, Illinois. Ed loved to tell stories of is adventures growing up with his brothers and sister on the family dairy farm. At age 23, Ed's life was changed forever by a supernatural encounter with Jesus Christ. From that moment on, he lived with eternal perspective. His pursuit of God led Ed to a beautiful young lady named Elva Miller. They got married September 1947 and the bride and groom began the adventure of a lifetime together. About one month after they were married, Ed and Elva moved to Portland to help Elva's parents with their fledgling church. And so the newlyweds blazed a new trail, settling in their "sweet little nest out in the west." Ed worked as a body and fender man for many years and also managed his rental properties. He built a home for his growing family in 1954 and lived there until the time of his passing. Ed and Elva celebrated 65 loving years together. Ed was Elva's fulltime caregiver for the past four years until her passing in January of this year. Ed's most defining characteristic was his love for God and his genuine and selfless love for others. For over 50 years, he and Elva ministered to the elderly and shut-ins and faithfully led weekly Bible studies in their home. Ed is survived by his brother, Wayne Unsicker of Peoria, Illinois' son, Thomas Unsicker; daughters, Sharon Riesterer, Ruth Novash, and Debra Graham; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren.
