Eileen E. Grenfell was born to parents William and Elizabeth (Sandkoetter) Grenfell on January 12th, 1927, in Portland, Oregon. Eileen was raised and grew up in NE Portland. She had one sibling, a sister, Marjorie. Eileen graduated from Washington High School in Portland and attended Willamette University. She married Don Hawley on December 6, 1946. From that union came two daughters, Susan and Joyce. Eileen and Don separated in 1969. On May 16th, 1970, Eileen was married to Byford Hecht "Biff".
Eileen's primary occupation was as a homemaker. Eileen was "amazing with her hands" - her true passion was the process of making things. She enjoyed crafts, drawing, sewing, pottery and painting. Her family proudly displays in their homes many of the precious items Eileen has created over the years, including her delicate pine needle baskets. Eileen also greatly enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. Eileen and Biff had many memorable adventures together on their motor home excursions across the U.S. Before Biff passed, the two called Yuma, AZ home. They enjoyed the warmer climate and the colors and textures of the area served as inspiration for Eileen's creative endeavors.
It has been said that Eileen could be described as a bit of a "pistol" and just a little bit feisty. She will be remembered as loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, and will be dearly missed.
Eileen is predeceased by her parents William and Elizabeth; loving husband, Byford; and sister, Marjorie Shuster. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Reischman and Susan Buntin; grandchildren, Tomie, Gina, Kari, and Drew, five great grandchildren, and three step-children.
A private memorial gathering will take place to celebrate the memory of Eileen. She will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland, Oregon.
