

Eugene Bergquist transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on May 31, 2014. He was surrounded by loved ones at his home in Donald, Oregon. He died of kidney failure at the age of 78. Gene was born on August 27th, 1935, in Fargo, North Dakota. He grew up in McGregor, North Dakota, working with his family on local farms. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956, where he was trained as a plumber. In 1957, he married Marlene Graff, and remained loving and devoted to her for over 56 years. With their three children, they moved out to Oregon in 1966. Gene loved his life in Oregon, where he served the Beaverton and surrounding area as a service plumber for the next 31 years until he retired in 1997. Gene was known for his beautiful yard and garden and for his talents for barbecuing and smoking meats. He was always willing to help out his friends and neighbors. Gene was a long-time member of the Beaverton Elks Lodge, where he was involved in numerous charitable projects. Gene loved to go hunting, fishing, and camping. Gene and Marlene enjoyed vacation properties in Yuma, Arizona, and Lake Merwin, Washington. Gene was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hjalmar and Lilian Bergquist; his nephew, Arin Bergquist, and by many close friends and relatives. What a joyous reunion they will have in heaven! Gene is survived by his loving wife, Marlene, and their children Wayne Bergquist, Lori Fisher, and Lisa Cornwell. He is also survived by granddaughters, Jennifer, Ashley, Natalie, Megan, and Rachel; and by his brother, Algot Bergquist. He will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 9, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Bergquist home in Donald. Arrangements under the direction of Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary, Portland, OR.
