Gayle was born May 5, 1944 to James and Corinne Weatherly in Portland, OR. She attended Laurelhurst School and Grant HS, graduating in 1962. She participated in Campfire Girls and spent her summers at Camp Numanu. She was involved in Job’s Daughters Bethel 62, where she rose to the rank of Honored Queen.
After high school she started her career working at Meier & Frank, later working for Sprouse Reitz and DelMonte before pausing her career to raise her family. Gayle attended PSU and it was there she was introduced, through mutual friends, to the love of her life, Stuart Morris. They married in 1965 and made their home in NE Portland. Together they welcomed three children. Gayle’s greatest joy was her children. She volunteered as room mother, went on many field trips, and served on the PTA. She returned to the workforce at Paul Schatz Furniture and worked for Portland Public Schools until her retirement in 2004.
Gayle was a life member of St Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church. Her service to the community included: Lay Eucharistic Ministry, training crucifers and acolytes, serving as crucifer, prayer shawl ministries, coordinating communion bread baking, serving on the Vestry, assisting with receptions, leading an annual trip to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and writing cards/notes of support to parishioners and friends. She volunteered for the American Red Cross of OR and NC, and frequently donated blood. She enjoyed working in the yard, knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Gayle is survived by her husband of 59 years, Stuart Morris; children Corinne Parks (Tony), Christina Ballaris (Mark), and Kenneth Morris (Karen); grandchildren Michael Parks (Taylor), Katie McIntire (Steven), William Ballaris, and Weatherly Ballaris; great grandchildren Zoey and Madelyn; brothers Newell and Warren and preceded in death by her sister Marylyn.
