She met her future husband, Owen Street, in a humble bar, where Owen wanted to dance and Gayle did not. On Owen’s birthday, December 7, 1962, Gayle married Owen. The couple selected this date to ensure that Owen would always remember their anniversary.
Gayle’s career was spent as an assistant school secretary at Seth Lewelling Grade School, where she was always happy to be a lunch buddy to any child that wanted company. She also participated in the SMART reading program.
Since the 1960s, Gayle attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She loved many sports but especially enjoyed watching baseball. The New York Yankees were her favorite, but she also loved Oregon Ducks football as well. Gayle played a mean game of Mahjong Solitaire and she never let a Facebook status go un-liked!
Gayle had a jovial way about her; often laughing to the point of tears. Her face would be red and she would be wheezing, but she was having the time of her life. She was a friend to all children and pets. Gayle loved seeing new places and was able to overcome her fear of flying to visit both Europe and Brazil.
Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Street; children, David Street and Don Street; her parents; and many beloved uncles and aunts. Gayle is survived by her children: Sheila Winner, Dale Street, Sheryl Blackman, and Steve Street; and her siblings: Gary Sanderson, Sally Ryan, and Sandy Borreson.
She looked forward to reuniting with Owen, the family members that preceded her, and her many pets.
A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Tuesday, October 29th at St. John the Baptist Church, 10956 SE 25th Ave., Milwaukie.
