George grew up in Cedar Mill. He helped his parents farm lettuce, celery, and green beans. Upon graduating from Willamette University with a degree in Mathematics, George tested the equation 1+1=2 and married Anastasia Michaelides in 1960. The two built and ran a Greek restaurant for 19 years -- Marika’s -- named after George’s mother. George taught Mathematics at Hillsboro High School, Portland State, Clark College and finally at Portland Community college, retiring at 83. George revisited farming in 1989, growing lettuce and celery and selling it at the Beaverton Farmers Market for 30 years. George was a Korean war veteran. He loved classic cars, Anastasia’s cooking, and dogs.
