Born June 26, 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona to Vicente and Helen Canalez, she was the third of two brothers and one sister. She married her husband, Gilbert on February 16, 1963. They moved to La Crescenta, California after Gilbert graduated from Arizona State University in 1967. When their two children, Gina and George were older she worked as an office manager at a real estate agency. She was also very involved in her children’s school activities and sports. She could always be counted on for volunteering at their school events. The family moved and lived in Mexico City for five and half years. Geri was very involved in the Newcomer’s Club and rose to become the organization’s President. Subsequent moves to London, Hong Kong and back to Mexico City soon followed due to Gilbert’s international banking career. Throughout their many international moves they made many friends and traveled extensively. Geri loved to garden, read or entertain with her many friends and family. Gilbert and Geri moved to Oregon after their grandchildren were born. She always loved having them over on the weekends or take them to the movies. Her generosity and love of family and friends will be missed by all.
Geri was preceded in death by Gilbert, her husband of 50 years; and her brother, Bobby. Geri is survived by her daughter, Gina (George); her son, George (Cheryl); her two grandchildren, Zachary and Isabella; Josh and Melissa (great-grand daughter Annabelle) and her brother, William (Juanita); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Geri’s life will be held at a later date when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted and health concerns improve. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to The Grotto at: www.thegrotto.org or a charity of choice.
