

Glenn Moved to Portland with his brother in November 1941. He worked for the ship yards
until he was drafted into the US Army being inducted in August 1942. After basic training
Glenn was stationed in Iceland from February 1943 to August 1944. His service took him thru Europe and Germany serving in the 94th division, them to France joining the 8th armored division under General Patton. After the war, Glenn went on occupational duty in Czechoslovakia was honorably discharged in December 1945.
Glenn returned to Portland after serving in the war, and met the love of his life, Mary Clark in
early 1947. They were married January 30, 1948. During their marriage Glenn worked for
John Deere, Bateman Shell, and Firestone tires moving up to manager. He managed Firestone stores in
Corvallis and Portland. He retired from Firestone in 1982.
During their marriage they welcomed 5 children into their family, Michael, Barbara, Leonard,
Nancy, and Leslie; 11 Grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. All of which Glenn loved so
very much. Glenn was very devoted to his family and was loved by all who knew him. He
will be remembered as a very honest, hard working man who loved his wife and family more
than anything. He enjoyed wood working, square dancing, playing cards with family and
friends, and making people laugh with his teasing and the twinkle in his eye. The Barnhart home was always open to friends and family. There were many celebrations held there.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, daughters Barbara Jacobson and Nancy Chandler (Carl), sons Leonard Barnhart (Leah) and Leslie Barnhart (Karla), brothers Leland, and Neil, sister Bessie Faries, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, 1 sister, and son Michael.
Services will take place at Lincoln Memorial 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd Portland, Oregon on November 22, 2013 at 12:00 pm. Willamette National Honor Guard at 1:30 to follow.
