

Glenn Leroy “Roy” Halverson, 82, was born on November 27, 1933 to Glen and Erma Halverson in Newport, Oregon. He had two older brothers (Dale and Jerry) and two younger sisters (Zetta and Phyllis) who preceded him in death. He attended Newport High School where he boxed and played football and basketball.
He enlisted in the Army in 1951 and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He competed in multiple sports while in the army. Upon discharge, he returned to Newport. He was married to Annette Christensen from 1956 until his death. They raised Brad, Jason and Nicole.
Roy was a longshoreman in Newport then transferred to Portland in 1963 where he worked until he retired in 1995. He was the business agent for ILWU Local 8 in the 70’s and the 80’s.
Roy played golf and was club champion at Agate Beach, Meriwether, and Rock Creek. He enjoyed watching (and occasionally flying) airplanes and travelled to Reno Air Races numerous times. He tended to his large garden and spent many hours constructing a water feature in the front yard. Roy and Annette cared for numerous pets and visitors including dogs, cats, squirrels, parrots, mynah birds, and a skunk.
Roy is survived by his wife Annette, sons Brad (Katrina), Jason (Angela), and grandchildren Ben, Chris, Alyssa and Aria. He was preceded in death by his daughter Nicole. He was loved and will be missed by all.
Services for Roy will be held on Saturday, December 19th at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park at 12 o'clock pm.
