Life on earth is but a small glimpse of our true selves. It is a short while in which vital lessons are learned. The ability to care, teach, share and love. It is when you have learned all these lessons that you are taken from this wonderful world with a sense of direction, and an understanding of right and wrong. You have a guiding hand but you have been given the opportunity to grow. In a sense we are more like gods flowers than his children. As we age, learn, grow and mature the experiences we have in a sense prune away the bad leaves (the ugly sides of us) until the only thing left is a perfect specimen. Harold William Bell had achieved that perfection.   Harold was a beloved father, a caring grandfather and a patient teacher. Throughout his 90 years he had many fantastic experiences. He traveled, fished, skated, hunted, shared and loved. There was something different about him though ,you see with Harold there wasn't much to prune back. There wasn't much bad to trim away. He was the greatest man I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and who happened to be my grandfather.  He had a heart of gold and lived a life we could only dream of. He made regular contributions to charities and those in need. On one our trips to Mexico Harold was lucky enough to catch and enormous sailfish, in fact it was the biggest that had been caught in that area. It was a sight to see the whole town came down. He was like a famous movie star everyone wanted a picture with him and the fish. Instead of having the fish stuffed and mounted like so many of us would have, he donated it to the local area to put a plate of food on their tables. He was a proud man but he wore his emotions on his sleeve. He wasn't afraid to cry but it was because he cared that much! "To Harold you weren't a stranger, you were a friend he hadn't met yet" (Marcia Hauer) within 10 seconds of talking to him he had touched your life in some way. The more time you spent with him the more time he would help you grow and trim away your bad leaves. And so I say thank you to you Grandpa for everything you taught me, for every memory you left behind, for loving and caring for my Grandmother, for loving everyone the way you did, for teaching us all so much, for being my idol and my friend.  I stood up to speak at his funeral and was physically unable not just because, I was sad or upset but because I had seen the people whose lives he had touched sad and upset. I felt sorry for everyone that didn't get the opportunity to spend much time with him and those who sadly choose not to. So as a man I stood there in tears for him but also for everyone that was afraid to or could not say what they wanted to about him. I felt I owed him that.  You see with Grandpa there was a smile on his face when he saw you and a tear in his eye when you left. He wasn't afraid to let the world know how he felt. This was one of his greatest qualities. So from beautiful words to a beautiful poem, I thank all of you that choose to speak as the power and truth behind your words will rest in the souls of everyone that listened.  I have so many memories and great times with him that I wish I could share with everyone. And so it is with tears in our eyes and a break in our heart that we say goodbye. It is my hope that every time you think of Harold you smile or laugh at the great memories he left behind. I Love you Grandpa, you changed my life and I can't wait to see you again

I've cut Harold's hair a few times and I've dressed his wife's hair (Aliene) for many years.  I'm saddened at the family's loss. He was  a great man. the world has lost a very special guy. We will all miss him.  i wish his family well.

I believe my ex-husband worked with MR. BELL on the Portland Docks in the 1980s.  My condolences to the Bell family.
