

Harry Bryan Hutton was born on April 18, 1924 in Nanton, Alberta, Canada to Henry and Sarah Hutton. He was raised with three brothers and three sisters. The family moved to Oregon when Harry was about 7 years old. He attended school in Albany then in Portland at Benson High School.
Harry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps when he was 17 years old. He served during WWII, and was awarded several medals, including the Silver Star and the Purple Heart.
After his honorable discharge, Harry got his pilot’s license and worked a commercial pilot. He and his brothers then went into the trucking business together, opening Transport Service in Portland.
Harry and his brothers sold Transport Service, and he continued on in the trucking business as a driver. He received the “National Truck Driver of the Year” award and was recognized for going one million miles with no accidents. Harry eventually retired from the City of Portland water treatment plant in the early 80s.
Harry exchanged wedding vows with his first wife, Lauris, after the war. She preceded him in death in 2001. He then married Betty Werings in 2003 in the court house in St. Helens, OR. The couple spent five happy years together before Betty’s passing in 2008.
During his lifetime Harry enjoyed many hobbies. He especially loved flying, and in his later years he enjoyed raising tomatoes.
Harry passed away on February 5, 2011 in St. Helens, OR with loving family at his side. At his request no services will be held. Harry will be missed by all who knew him. He will be most remembered for his storytelling.
