Helen L. Pearson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on February 7, 1941, in Portland, Oregon, Helen was the cherished daughter of Ira and Dorothy Lagasse. Raised in Portland, she graduated from Madison High School before embarking on a fulfilling career.
Helen's warm spirit and genuine kindness made her a standout figure in her community. She began her professional journey as a dental assistant and later dedicated 39 years to Gateway Fred Meyer, where her bright demeanor and friendly service made her a favorite among shoppers. People often waited in her line just to enjoy her company and bright smile.
Helen’s heart was boundless, extending generously to her family and friends. She married Robert (Bob) L. Pearson on February 17, 1962, after a fateful blind date arranged by Bob’s brother, Chuck. Their life together was a testament to unwavering love and companionship.
In her early years, Helen attended Rose City Park Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was actively involved in her faith community. Her passions included traveling and camping, particularly with her grandchildren and their friends. She was a devoted attendee at all her grandchildren’s sporting events and cherished every moment spent with family.
Helen’s affection was also evident in her love for lunch dates, word search puzzles, and, above all, her family. Described as steady, sturdy, and filled with joy, Helen had a gift for making everyone around her feel special. Her joy-filled laugh, kind heart, and the best hugs will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Helen is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Pearson; her daughter, Bev Blume (Ray); grandchildren Seiji (Ariel) and Zac (Tyler); and great-grandsons Cohen and Riggs. She was lovingly known as Neen to her family, and her legacy of love and kindness will live on through them.
In honor of Helen’s memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. A funeral service will be held on September 19, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park, followed by a celebration of her life at her home. Helen’s presence will be deeply missed, but her love and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
