

Helen Marie Washington was born on May 19, 1925 to Louis Brown and Cora Johnson in Shreveport Louisiana. She moved to Portland Oregon in 1977 and lived here until she went to be with the Lord on January 28th, 2012. She was brought up to fear the Lord and accepted Christ in her youth. In the early 1940's, she married Roy Freeman in Shreveport Louisiana and from this union her 1st and only child was born "Roy Freeman". Helen and Roy later divorced leaving her to raise and support her only son. In the 60's, she married Robert Washington in Shreveport Louisiana, then later divorced. In 1968, she adopted her two grandchildren, Roy Anthony Freeman and Desiree Freeman and raised them as her own children.
In the 1940's, Helen Washington attended Forbin High School in Sheveport Louisiana, then preformed domesticated job duties from 1940's till 1970's. In 1977, she began her career as a CNA at Good Samaritan Hospital where she was employed for 7 years then retired at the age of 62.
Helen Washington enjoyed cooking and especially known for her "Sweet Potato Pies, 7-up cake and moist home-made dressing. She also enjoyed talking on the phone and telling you like it is with no hesitation, so you had to prepare yourself mentally before calling. She also love going grocery shopping at Safeway with her son and ending the day with "Popeye's Chicken". She would also spend time with Mrs Perry, Hazel and two ladies she referred to as her adopted daughters, "Sister Justina" and Sister Nancy. Holidays were special to her where she would spend time with her immediate family eating, talking and laughing. She enjoyed having company over, but only if you called her first.
Helen Washington was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Greater Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist Church. She was a dedicated women of Christ and spent most of her time helping the church with several task and needs under every Pastor. She was a faithful member that started as an Usher and in charge of cleaning the Sanctuary and the Fellowship hall weekly. She was on the Finance Committee, Treasure for Sunday School and served on the Trustee Board. Mother Washington "ALWAYS" gave the welcome at the Mother's Ministry Ole Landmark Celebration.
Mother Helen Washington is proceeded in death by her parents, Louis brown and Cora Johnson, three Brothers and Daughter-in-law, Winnifred Freeman. She leaves to mourn her only son, Roy Freeman, Daughter-in-law, Carol Dean Willis, Grandchildren, Tyrone Glass, Desiree Freeman, Roy Anthony Freeman (Mary Causey), Michael Freeman, Nina Freeman, Nadine McDougal, and Jerri Smith Freeman (Princess). Great Grandchildren Tanya Smith, Derrick Johnson, Ida "Lanae" Causey, Sharonda Causey, Deylon Freeman, Derek Freeman, Isiah McDougal, Marvin Dean Jr., Nia Washington , and Princeton Shanklin.
Also remembering One Great Great Grandchild, Angela Thomas, Several Nieces and Nephews, Cousins, in-laws, and a host of relatives and friends in Portland and other states who she loved dearly. She was a strong Women and affectionately known as "Momma", "Grandma Helen", and "Mother Washington".
She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
