Ingrid was born on March 1, 1953 to parents Harnaught and Joyce Kumar in Georgetown, Guyana. She was the eldest sister of 8 siblings. Immigrating to the US in 1970, Ingrid attended nursing school briefly, but chose to follow her passion of caring for children instead, touching countless lives in the process before retiring in 2004. Ingrid married Gurdev Sohi in August of 1981, in New York City where they lived for 13 years before moving to Oregon in 1994.
Ingrid loved to visit her family and friends in New York, and also her family in California. Ingrid’s favorite hobbies included shopping (like, a lot), cooking, laughing with her loved ones, and singing loudly and often, without abandon. Ingrid’s generosity was known to all, as were her unique sense of humor and her love of fashion.
She is survived by her eldest son David “Chris” Sookdeo and his wife Angie, and also her son Amandeep Sohi. She is further survived by her six brothers: Robert, Vibert, Romeo, Terrence (of New York), Rudy, and Rohan Kumar (of California), and her beloved Bengal cat Rani.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gurdev Singh Sohi (2008), her sister Maria Mapula (2006), her mother Joyce Kumar (1994), and her father Harnaught Kumar (1987).
Ingrid Kumar Sohi was a wonderful, mother, wife, sister and friend. Her smile and loving presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
