Isabel was born on March 18, 2013 in North Vancouver, British Columbia to parents Isabella and Ernest Holmes. She grew up in Canada attended school and graduated from high school in North Vancouver. She met and married William John Wilson, also known as Ken. They started their family in Canada and in 1949 moved to Portland, Oregon for steadier employment.
Ken and Isabel settled in the Gateway neighborhood and they soon found good friends in their neighbors and community. They raised their three children and were members of the local Presbyterian church. Isabel was a compassionate and dedicated mother. She was innovative and creative in making clothing for her children and tasty dishes in the kitchen. She was a stickler for etiquette and was diligent on instructing her children on the "right" way to do things. As the children grew older Isabel went to work as a sales clerk, first at Liberty House (Rhodes) and then at Finlandia House. These jobs were a great match with Isabel's impeccable e taste, style and her ability to start conversation with new people. Isabel enjoyed meeting people, it wasn't long before a new acquaintance was her friend. She loved having people gather in her home and was a gracious hostess. She had a love of life and a great sense of humor seen in her quick smile, sparking eyes and contagious laughter.
During their retirement Ken and Isabel enjoyed traveling. They traveled to the United Kingdom and Australia and cruised through the Panama Canal. They purchased an RV and enjoyed being camp hosts at state parks on the Oregon Coast. Isabel particularly enjoyed a trip to Hawaii where she and Ken took a special class on photography to enhance their skills in record their travels and adventures. They also liked attending events especially those held at the Elks Club. In order to have proper skills for these events, Isabel insisted they take dance lessons. Ken and Isabel could truly cut a rug when they took the dance floor.
Ken passed away in 1993. Because their marriage was one based on efficient teamwork, Isabel had to learn many everyday tasks that Ken had always managed for the two of them. Isabel found peace and comfort in spending time with her family and enjoyed her time with her children and grand children. In March of 2013 there was a celebration of Isabel's 90th birthday. The party was attended by her many friends and family. Much love and attention was lavished on dear Isabel. It was a good day for her and wonderful last birthday.
Isabel is predeceased by her parents, her husband and a son, Glen Wilson. Her memory will be cherished by her children Donna Barker and Jeffery and his wife Connie-Rae WIlson: and grandchildren Sean Carline and Jilleona Karole W. Wilson. The family would like to acknowledge Isabel's caretakers, Simona and Ciprian Neamt for the loving care they gave her. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11 am at Gateway Little Chapel of the chimes, 1515 NE 106th Ave., Portland, Oregon, 97220. A reception will immediately follow the service.
