Family of Janet Smithwick,
      I taught with Janet at Newtown School during the 1968-69 and 1969-70 school years.  She was a delight to work with, so gentle, smart, and willing to work together.  It was my first year and second year of teaching and I was only 23 at that time.  What a wonderful staff at that school!   I could have stayed there for an entire career, but I wanted to try other adventures, so I went to Sycamore for the next 28 years.  Probably 8-10 years ago I called her in Portland and we talked for a lengthy bit of time!  Just as always; smart, engaging, and ever so much a lady!  I did not know of Brad’s passing, so sad and so young.  I do not remember meeting her children, but I knew her husband, such a neat guy.  Glad we had the years together and were able to talk so many years later.  God bless the Smithwick Family!!!

Sorry to hear about Janet. I lost track of her after death of son brad who was my oldest friend. She was a smart lady and she used to bake me cookies every Christmas. Her daughter Holly married a doctor but I don't know her last name.

Sorry to hear of Cousin Janet’s passing! I am glad my cousin Ann Newhard Clack took me to visit Janet a few years ago at her apartment in Portland.  She was quite intellectual and well-read. She was proud to be a great granddaughter of Lorenzo Dow McCabe, and seemed to share at least some of his old time Methodist convictions expressed in his works like, Light on the Pathway to Holiness. . She was the daughter of Miriam Dow McCabe Hoover, who once ran a church in the inner city of Cincinnati, despite being a woman who could not be ordained at the time. 
I was not very close to Janet, but my family and I met her and  her husband John and her children Holly and Brad, when they visited my Grandparents Katharine McCabe and Harry Grinton many years ago.  From her Christmas cards through the years, it was evident that she was quite active upon moving to her 55+ community, and held some offices. It was sad to see her have to slow down as her vision began to fail. Another from the Greatest Generation gone..
