She was born on June 28, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to Irma and Russell Atkeson. She was the middle child, with an older sister, Maxine, and a younger brother, Robert. She graduated from Girls Polytechnic High School in Portland, Oregon in 1949. In 1949, she married James Weaver and had two sons, James and John. In 1966, she married Ronald Pettit and had two daughters, Karen and Nancy. In 1993, she married Theodore Stratton. During the course of her life she worked as a chocolatier at Van Duyns, school cook at Centennial School District, clerk for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office, cake decorator at Fred Meyer and waitress at HoneyBaked Ham. Jean was a lover of animals, especially dogs, had a thing for chickens and adored her kitties. Later in life Jean enjoyed visits to the beach, colorful jigsaw puzzles, old cowboy movies, and tapping her foot and whistling along to an Irish jig or an old gospel song. Her hobbies included cooking, arts and crafts, reading, sewing, and gardening, lots of gardening. She is survived by her brother, four children, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her faith, prayers, and unconditional love and support for her family.
