

John Howard Kennedy “Jack” was born August 25th 1923 to John and Burnadean Kennedy in Mitchell, South Dakota. While in grade school his family moved to Portland, Oregon. John graduated from Franklin High School and then joined the army. He served from February 18th, 1943 thru January 4th, 1946 in the 11th Airborne Division during WW2, during which time he was awarded two purple hearts.
After his discharge we went on to attend University of Oregon. John worked in heavy construction and then later in life worked in real estate. John and his wife belonged to a square dance club and a bowling league for many years, which he enjoyed very much.
John died on Sunday, August 3rd, 2014 at age 90. He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and sister. He was honored earlier this year by the birth of his namesake.
John will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery with a private graveside service for family members. There will be an open memorial service for John on Thursday, August 14th, 2014 at 2:00 PM at St. Marks Lutheran church located at 5454 SE Powel Blvd., in Portland, Oregon, with a reception immediately following.
