Jon David Kline passed away on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025 in Portland, Oregon; he was 68 years old. Born on November 13th, 1957 in Medford, Oregon, he was a fiercely loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Jon lived a passionate life. He was a force and had a vibrant intensity. Sometimes reserved and reflective, this side was only seen by those closest to him, while his spirited side was usually always on display. One of his greatest joys was helping others; he would do anything for those who mattered most to him. He was an opinionated, honest, and intelligent man, who never shied away from sharing his truth.
The second son of Vonna Webber and Robert Kline, he had a rambunctious childhood with his two brothers, Kelly and Chris Kline, and his large group of friends. He climbed mountains, was on the downhill ski team, worked for his dad’s logging company, and got into all kinds of mischief. After attending schools in Medford, Portland, Eugene, and even Bogota, Colombia, he graduated from Sheldon High School in 1976. Jon went on to Lewis & Clark College, where he enjoyed a semester abroad in Kenya and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Economics with a minor in International Affairs in 1981.
After a love-at-first-sight encounter with Rhonda Zahler, the couple exchanged vows on February 25th, 1989 at Agnes Flanagan Chapel in Portland. They were married just shy of 37 years, during which they raised their three daughters, Anna, Jaclyn and Sarah, together with love and diligence.
Jon spent most of his professional career as an Appraiser, surmounting over 35 years of real estate experience. Starting off his career at Brown, Chudleigh, Schuler and Assoc. in Medford, he went on to work with several banks in Oregon throughout the years including U.S. Bank as a Relationship Manager, and Bank of the Cascades as a Commercial Loan Officer and then Chief Appraiser. In true form with his entrepreneurial spirit, Jon built a successful appraisal management company, Value Advisors LLC, in 2019 that continues on today.
Despite his busy professional life, Jon’s family always came first. He spent time with his beloved wife and daughters as much as possible - those moments mattered a great deal to him. Family dogs were his fourth and fifth daughters; he adored them. He was a music lover, skilled writer and historian, and a jokester until the end. As a second-generation Oregon native, he had a deep knowledge of the Pacific Northwest’s landscapes, wildlife, and forests. He revered the great outdoors, enjoying them by hiking, backpacking, skiing, fishing, and hunting whenever he got the chance. Jon also occasionally enjoyed a game of high handicapper golf with his friends.
His memory will be cherished and preserved by his spouse, Rhonda Kline, his three children, Anna, Jaclyn, and Sarah Kline, his mother Vonna Kline, two brothers, Kelly and Chris Kline, and his wide net of dear friends. Preceding Jon in death was his father, Robert Kline.
A public memorial will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, December 19th at 1 pm.
Jon’s family asks that donations in his honor, if desired, be made to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (rmef.org) or Northwest River Restoration (northwestriverrestoration.org).
