Uncle Joe, I still miss you. I call Aunt Marie every now and then since I miss Mom and she is gone now too--it is like I am talking to Mom. I miss the wonderful warm welcome you always gave us when we got a chance to visit there, and the fabulous meals you cooked!! Say hi to Mom!!

I think of you often Uncle Joe. Just yesterday I was telling mom about the great memory I had of dad taking us by bus down to your store during the Rose Festival and how you would always reach into your pocket and give dad a few extra bucks for the rides and then we would return to your store and you would give us a soda out of the fridge I was always eyeballing. I also still get a chuckle when I think about when I  asked you why you spelled your name Lae instead of Lee. And most recently, the memory of you and Mark coming to my house to see me when Gary died. You were both so thoughtful and caring. You were the best Uncle Joe! And so are your children.

Wonderful photos! I'm so glad that I had the chance to meet Uncle Joe at least once. I learned to love him dearly from Mom, when she shared her many wonderful memories with the family. My heart is with you all.

Please know that I am thinking of you and all of your family at this difficult time. I am so pleased that Mr. Lae was able to see his new Great Grandson Toby Joseph, and that you all have the wonderful memory picture of the 4 generations.

A fond memory of mine, Going to Antelope, Oregon on a shooting trip with Joe and his son, My best friend (Brian). Joe packed some delicious sanwiches, He called I believe dagwoods. I always enjoyed going to his store to visit. I will miss Joe, and having the occasional swisher sweet he so enjoyed.

Some of my greatest family memories of Uncle Joe and family are sharing a wonderful meal and seeing his warm smile.  He was a beloved Uncle, 
John, Jared, Nick, Gabe,  Ben and I wish to express our deep sympathy to the Lae (Lee) family during this difficult time.

I knew the heart of Bwana Junction from its beginnings.  Joe was a customer of my family company, (leather goods mfg. and hunting gear) only 3 or 4 blocks away.  I found myself in the store many times as a supplier and friend, and have fond memories of many of the unusual characters that the place attracted. 

Those memories are part of what sustain me.  We were all part of the fabric of old Portland and proud of it.

Congratulations for the wonderful rogues gallery of family photos.  It gives me a dimension of the family that I never new.

I enjoyed visiting Joe at Bwana Junction. He always had interesting stories and I found a few treasures in his store.

Uncle Joe, we weren't able to see you often because of the many miles of distance. But our love for you spans across those many miles because of the genuine sweet host you were when we visited. I love you and say hello to my Dad for me.

Joe was a great guy.I new him most of my life. We shared many wonderful times with him and his family out in Antelope oregon hunting and shooting.

My great Uncle Joe, a great example of the American Dream.  To come from a place of nothing as an immigrant, find an amazing wife of 60 years, start a business and raise a wonderful family. My memories of Uncle Joe are few, but great. From the hospitality of Joe and Marie when grandpa and I would stop by their store, to the Lee family events together, Joe and Marie always had a smile. The world lost a good man... Say hi to grandpa for me, Joe.
