Joyce was born in Portland, Ore. on August 18, 1926. The daughter of a schoolteacher, Joyce was partially home-schooled at a young age. She attended Portland State University for classes that led to a position at Anderson Accounting Firm, where she would meet the love of her life, Bill Anderson. The pair married on February 9, 1949, in Portland, Oregon at Bethany Lutheran Church. They enjoyed extensive travel, adoring Tahiti and Hawaii, to name a few. Bill passed away on October 25, 1971. Heartbroken but determined, Joyce worked for a time at Sandwell International Incorporation before obtaining her realtor’s license and beginning her career in real estate. She teamed up with her niece, Joanne Talbert, at Colwell Banker Seal. She retired in 1999.
Throughout her sunset years, Joyce was a regular patron of the Multnomah Club, where she would read the paper and have lunch. She was involved in the endowment care of Pittock Mansion and frequently enjoyed events at the landmark, and she was a regular patron of Portland Opera.
Joyce was famous for her unique, personal gifts that were always beautifully wrapped and so very thoughtful. Her family will remember her as a generous person who cared deeply about the people she loved. She is survived by a number of friends and family who will miss her dearly.
Joyce was reunited with her beloved, Bill, at Lincoln Memorial Park.
