June D. Crabb, affectionately known as “Junebug” or “the Bug,” of Hillsboro, OR, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the age of 67 due to cardiac arrest while undergoing an emergency medical procedure at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Portland, OR.
Born in Fresno, CA on January 8, 1949 to John III and Jean Kirk. June, the youngest of four children, was raised in Coalinga, CA. June often recalled stories from growing up in a small town and was very proud her father was the Postmaster of Coalinga. In 1968 while attending a party with another date, June caught the eye of her future husband, John Crabb. On their third date, John asked June to marry him. After two failed elopement attempts, the two were officially married in a full ceremony on January 24, 1970. In 1973, their first daughter, Jeannie, was born. In 1977 the young Crabb family was transferred to Oregon where their second daughter, Andrea, was born. In 1979 the family was transferred to Minnesota. It was here that John and June decided they wanted to raise their children in one place avoiding frequent transfers, so John quit his job with Cargill, and moved the family back to Oregon. They made good on their decision to raise the girls in one house bought in 1980.
June was a homemaker, avid tennis and pickleball player, quilter and president of her book club. She also coached Jeannie and Andrea’s teams, led Blue Birds, and chaperoned every field trip the girls’ classes went on. Once the girls were older, June served on the Board of Directors for THPRD from 1990-1995. She also coached Varsity Girls’ Tennis at Westview High School. Her love for tennis transformed into another racket sport, pickleball. She was responsible for introducing pickleball to the State Games of Oregon where she organized the pickleball tournaments each year. June went on to play in Florida in the Nationals Tournament for Pickleball in 2002. It was here she received the honor of being ranked the number one female pickleball player in the US.
June is survived by her devoted husband, John, her daughters, Jeannie Robb (John) and Andrea Andonian (John), her six grandchildren: Colton, Carter, Lucy, Jack, Savannah, and Jacob, her three older siblings, Margaret (Mel), Nancy (Lloyd), and John (Karen) and her beloved dogs: Macy, Sammy, and Scout. She is preceded in death by her parents, John III and Jean Kirk, and her many pets: Edgar, Moses, Miley, Max, Harry, Toonces, Hannah, Riley, Charlie and OD.
In lieu of flowers or gifts the family requests you make a donation to the Oregon Humane Society in honor of June’s love for all animals. She will be laid to rest Friday, November 18, 2016 at Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland, OR.
