August 25, 2020. Born on November 19, 1922 in Culbertson, Nebraska to Asa and Lulu Schlegel. He
moved his family west to Portland, Oregon in 1956. He started his construction career by building
churches, bridges, and commercial buildings. Gene was a loving husband, father, and grandpa. He was
always there and ready with a laugh to share. His love and commitment to his family and friends will be missed. He is survived by his wife Esther of 13 years, his two sons Ron Schlegel and wife Darla, son
Duane Schlegel, daughter Diana Jewell and husband Ray, 3 stepdaughter’s Shannon Muse and husband Greg, Julie Longnecker and husband Scott, Shelly Doherty and husband Kevin, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great, great, great grandchild, sister in-law Lucille Schlegel. Gene is preceded in death by his wife Edna Schlegel of 64 years, and daughter Cheryl Farmer.
