Kent was born January 16, 1956 in Casper, WY to Donald and Twila Ellis, the youngest of seven children.
Kent began his working career in the oil fields of Wyoming. He later moved to Portland, OR where he met the love of his life, Gerilynn Miller. They married 26 years ago, on February 23, 1991, and began their business, Maverick Tile.
Kent has 4 children, Nichole Fransen (Brian) of Casper, WY, Kindle Holmes (Jared) of Wilmington, NC, Kellee Schuerman (Jeremiah) of Glenrock, WY and Jack Ellis (Heather) of Keizer, OR. He has 11 grandchildren, Sydney and Spencer Russ; Allison, Kayleigh and Amanda Holmes; Tyhgahn, Dakohta, Tayler and Wyatt Schuerman; and Amira and Aayanah Ellis.
Kent enjoyed spending time with his in laws, Gary and Lisa Davis and Jerry and Betty Miller. Kent loved life, his friends and family, kids, grandkids and most importantly, his wife Gerilynn – who was there for him every minute of every day.
If you knew him, you knew that he would give you the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his pocket to anyone in need. He made everyone laugh with his animated stories, which he told often. He loved to entertain his family and friends by playing his guitar and singing all of his favorite songs. He had a creative mind and was always making new artistic creations which he enjoyed sharing with his loved ones. His grandchildren loved when he did imitations, especially hearing him talk like Donald Duck as often as possible.
He was a deeply spiritual person, and always had a close relationship with Jesus, often referring to him as “the man upstairs”.
Kent was preceded in death by his daughter, Kindle Holmes; mother-in-law, Betty Miller; father-in-law, Jerry Miller; his siblings Larry, Donna, Kathy, and Karen; and father, Donald Ellis.
If you feel the warmth of the sun on your face and hear the birds singing, know that Kent is right there with you.
