Layne Daugherty, age 20, beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend, of Portland, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on June 1, 2025. Born on February 9, 2005, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Layne grew up mostly between Pickerington, Ohio, and Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
While often shy and reserved, Layne was also goofy, lighthearted, compassionate, and had the best comedic timing to go along with his dry and sarcastic sense of humor. Music was a passion of Layne’s and he enjoyed both playing and listening to all sorts of music - but had a special affinity for bossa nova music. Ever in the pursuit of knowledge, to know Layne was also to know the full history and inner workings of the most random assortment of subjects, as he was quick to share his extensive research with all who would listen.
He is deeply loved and mourned by his parents Amber Lewis and Diane Hart (Daugherty), and his sister, Mila Daugherty. He also leaves his grandparents; Terri and Steve Ellis, Jeff and Wendy Lewis, and Carolyn Shaw. Layne also leaves behind an extensive extended family of great grandparents, several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who became family.
In honor of Layne’s memory, the family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Active Minds charity (https://activeminds.org/support/honor-and-memorial-giving/) or a local suicide prevention organization of your choice.
Layne’s life, though brief, was deeply impactful. He will be remembered fondly with love, and profoundly missed by all who knew him.
At this time, the family has chosen to honor Layne privately.
