At the age of eight, Lois lost her hearing—but she faced this challenge with extraordinary grace and courage. She became highly skilled at reading lips and never let her hearing loss define her spirit. Lois went on to graduate from the Omaha School for the Deaf.
Lois met the love of her life, James Gordon Moad, at the Rose City Deaf Club. From their very first meeting, their bond was undeniable. Married within eight months, they went on to share 54 beautiful years filled with laughter, devotion, and countless cherished moments—from bowling side by side, camping, and walking on the beach, to traveling and embracing life’s adventures together. In later years, Lois found joy in peaceful walks.
A dedicated and meticulous professional, Lois worked in data entry at First Interstate Bank in Portland, Oregon, where she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues before retiring. She cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for family and the simple joy of spending time with loved ones defined her life. Her laughter—often accompanied by a warm, unforgettable smile—brought joy to everyone around her.
Lois was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Kyes; her sister, Kayleen; her beloved husband, James; and her dear parents, Donald Earl Kyes and Viola Alma Kyes, who were proud members of The Eastern Star.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lynnette (and her husband Ray); her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Amanda) and Raelyn; and her great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Alexis—each carrying forward her legacy of love, kindness, and joy.
A woman of faith, Lois found deep comfort in her lifelong non-denominational Christian beliefs.
Though she has departed this world, Lois’s warmth, strength, and laughter will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service to honor Lois’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Skyline Memorial Gardens, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR 97229. A reception will follow from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM, with a graveside service at 3:00 PM, all taking place at Skyline Memorial Gardens.
