Lorraine Mayanne Stebbins was born in Portland, Oregon to parents Furl Marion and Nora Jean (Albrecht) Stebbins on January 29th, 1968. She had one sibling, a brother, Arthur. Lorraine grew up in Southeast Portland. For a brief period, her family resided in Arizona. As a young person, she was bright, happy, hard-working, and very private. She could be found in her room, studying and listening to top 40 radio music and dancing by herself. She attended and graduated from Marshall High School in 1986. While in high school she worked part time as a temporary employee for the Federal Government, Bureau of Land Management.
Following graduation, still in her teen years, Lorraine’s father Furl passed away. Lorraine stepped forward and took the role of “head of the family” and supported her mother Nora and brother Arthur any way she could.
Lorraine went to work full-time for Bureau of Land Management on August 30, 1989 and was at the same time a at Portland Community College where she earned her associate degree in information / technology. She served the BLM for 23 years as an information / technology specialist and systems administrator. She was a beloved and respected co-worker at the BLM and will be greatly missed by her colleagues.
Lorraine will be remembered as a very loving, kind, and supportive person to her family and friends. She was famous for her powerful bear hugs when greeting loved ones. It has been said that she was “very much her own person” and was considered a private person. She was the ultimate example of the strong, courageous, independent woman of today. Lorraine was extremely intelligent, and will be remembered individually motivated “self-starter”. It has also been said that Lorraine “brought herself up”. She had somewhat modest beginnings and challenges along the way; Lorraine held fast and ultimately achieved great success. Lorraine made her family her number one priority. She never missed a family gathering and would “drop everything” to be in support of her family members. When Lorraine’s aunt Marcy lost her son, Mark, 5 years ago, Lorraine was immediately by her side and stood by her during a very difficult time. Marcy will never forget the love and support that Lorraine attentively gave during that time. Lorraine was also the “tech guru” and was the family go – to person for any computer related question big or small.
Lorraine enjoyed the outdoors and her family cherishes many memories of camping together in many beautiful Oregon places such as Rogue River, Crater Lake, and Suttle Lake near Sisters. She loved the water and loved to swim; she also went scuba diving in Puget Sound, Washington. The family vacationed together yearly and recently enjoyed a very memorable trip to Maui, Hawaii.
Lorraine, you were a loving and devoted daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, granddaughter, godmother, and friend. You will be greatly missed.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents Furl and Nora Stebbins.
She is survived by her brother Arthur Stebbins; nephews Dylon and Taylor; aunts, Marcy Salvetti (uncle Roy) and Judy Albrecht; grandmother, Zena Albrecht, many cousins (that are more like siblings than cousins); aunts, uncles, co-workers, and friends.
A memorial service will be held in Skyline Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon, on Thursday, May 16th, 2013, at 1pm. She will be laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens in the garden of the Sermon on the Mount.
