Louis was born in Memphis, Tennessee to parents James and Minnie L. (Weatherall) Dixon on September 2, 1932.
He joined the air force in 1951 and served 20 years 7 months. He retired from the service as an E-5 Staff Sergeant in July of 1972 and followed his 20 years service with 10 more years in the reserves, concluding in 1982. Following his service in the military, he worked in the security field. His first security job was for Meier & Frank between 1972 and 1975. He then went on to work for Portland Providence Hospital for more than 30 years - starting in 1975. He recently retired in January of 2009.
Louis met the love of his life Taka Unayama in 1961 and they were married on September 16, 1962.
Taka passed away in 2008.
