

Loyal F. Marsh, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist and former Director of St. Mary’s Home for Boys, died on August 29th at age 78. He was born in Plentywood, Montana on October 23, 1931 to Louis and LaVada Marsh. He graduated from Gonzaga Prep, received his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Philosophy from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, and his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from University of Portland.
He was in Private Practice for 30 years, and Director of St. Mary’s Boy’s Home for 40 years. He married Margaret Randall Marsh on August 29th, 1953 in Spokane, Wash. He taught Psychology at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE for two years before moving to Portland in 1963 to begin his Private Practice. While in Practice he also was on staff at The Oregon State Blind Commission, as well as being on faculty at OHSU Medical and Dental Schools, the Police Academy and Mt. Angel Abbey. He also served as President of Board of Directors of Jesuit High School, President of Birthright of Oregon and President of Raleigh Hills Little League as well as remaining active in the League for sixteen years.
His wife Margy died in 2001. He is survived by his 7 children – Douglas, Kimberly, Kellee, Daniel, Michael, Patrick and James – three daughters-in- law, Marcia, Mary and Rebecca – and seven grandchildren, Lane, Rachel, Brian, Audrey, Douglas, Cecelia and Liam.
A Rosary followed by a Funeral Mass will be held on Friday September 3, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 2:00pm. 1280 NW Saltzman Road, Portland.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to St. Mary’s Home for Boys.
