Our gentle, adventurous, humble son lost his precious life due to complications from Type 1 Diabetes on July 22, 2022.
Marcus lived boldly, passionately, and deliberately. A young man of great integrity inspired by his chosen dad, Chris. A silly, youthful, joyous, beam of light with a servants’ heart inspired by his mother, Meerta. A patient, kind, generous brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, and friend; thoughtful of others before self.
Marcus’ soul is welcomed and protected by the grace of God. He rests peacefully free of Type 1 Diabetes, free from worry, pain, or sorrow; his pain released in our tears and brokenness.
Marcus’ spirit is a song that gracefully gifts those who know him. Fiercely protective, loyal, humble, kind, focused, driven, reflective, ambitious, gentle, compassionate, smart, creative, strong, rational, tender, witty, wildly entertaining, spontaneous, thoughtful, introverted, and so much more. His smile, oh his smile, a contagious, purposeful gift. His laugh, infectious.
Marcus’ sense of adventure, on land, likens him to a goat and in the water, an ox. Without a doubt, the greatest of all time though, also, an actual goat. As a little boy climbing on counters, fences, and walls and as a young adult any tree, the side of a mountain, a waterfall. Whether jumping from a bridge or rock or swimming far and wide at sea he demonstrated strength, control, and competence. His curiosity afforded him opportunities to experience beauty without hesitation or fear. Marcus looked forward to family adventures both domestically and internationally. Annual dedicated ‘mom and son’ trips were most often spent outdoors hiking in Oregon and chasing waterfalls. Marcus and Meerta lovingly shared comfortable quiet and exuberant chatter; their connection unique and beautifully extraordinary.
Marcus’ superpower, magic. He connected with people and animals softly, tenderly. He was boisterous. Short shorts and unique socks. He was calm with the patience of a saint. He humbly volunteered. He was good, just to be good. Marcus was a giver, saying ‘no’ not in his nature. His love for his little brother Mattias knew no bounds. Marcus was blessed to experience true love with his best friend, Jordan. Their love story began when he was just 15 and at 19 knew ‘she’s the one’; he planned to one day marry her. He loved children and anticipated being a ‘girl dad’. He experienced true friendship and brotherhood and met his very best friends at Oregon State University, Cade, Jaxon, and James. Injustice angered him. Violence and war saddened him. Equality and human rights of paramount importance. He was drawn to people with differing abilities. He was a helper, a protector.
Marcus knew love and gave love, he loved big.
Listen for him. Feel him. He is here. Marcus’ soul lives and his spirit moves gently among us.
A funeral service for Marcus will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225.
