Margaret “Peggy” Ann Aik Burns Lynn July 22, 1922 - May 22, 2015 Peggy Lynn was born on July 22, 1922 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Earl Henry Aik and Beatrice Margaret Manion Aik. She had an older brother, Bob, and a younger sister, Camella. She attended St. Sebastian Parish School and Washington High School in Milwaukee, class of ’40. She attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Peggy majored in Home Economics and liked to point out that the Home Ec classes were the same as those the pre-med students took. After two years her father asked her to stay out of school so he could send her sister and she moved back to Milwaukee. When a roommate asked her to accompany her to the Marquette Drug Store for a double date, she met “the cutest boy I’d ever seen”, Thomas Arthur Burns, from Rochester, New York. He was attending Marquette Medical School at the time and when her dad offered to send her back to Madison, she declined because she didn’t want to leave Tom. They were married on March 28, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oakland, California, and daughter Mary was born in 1948. When Tom was called back into active-duty service, she packed the family up and headed for Germany. When Tom got out of the Army they moved to Portland, Oregon where Tom joined the Broadway Medical Clinic as the clinic’s ophthalmologist and where he worked for the rest of his career. Over the years they had six more children: Patty, Tom, Mike, Sue, John and Bob. Peggy and Tom provided a loving and joyous home to their children, navigating the ups and downs of raising seven children in an ever-changing world. They instilled in them the value of the love of family and friends through the example they set. Peggy and Tom took the kids on many great family vacations and also enjoyed traveling the world together. Peggy loved to golf; she and Tom were long-time members of Columbia Edgewater Country Club. Peggy was a master seamstress and passed her skills on to her daughters. She was a savvy and successful businesswoman, investing, owning and managing property. She was both a frugal and generous person who taught her family the value of savings, quality and sharing. She volunteered for many years for Christ Child Society, sewing blankets or other items and raising money for underprivileged women and their babies. When Tom died in 1992 she moved to Claremont in Beaverton where she stayed active golfing, entertaining, playing bridge and enjoying her grandchildren. In 1996 she met and fell in love with Joseph Lynn, and they were married after a three-week courtship, “because they didn’t have time to waste.” They had 11 wonderful years together traveling and enjoying life. Peggy later moved to Mary’s Woods in Lake Oswego where she continued to play bridge and socialize. She prided herself on being able to drive, which made her very popular at Mary’s Woods, before she gave it up at age 90. Peggy attended various area parishes over the years including Madeleine, St. John Fisher, St. Pius X, and Mary’s Woods. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Tom, son Mike, and her second husband, Joe. She is survived by her children Mary Lampros (Nick), Patty Tarlow (Don), Tom, Sue, John (Julie), Bob; 10 grandchildren (Laurie, Michael, Katie, James, Anna, Sam, Claire, Andy, Mackenzie and Erin); and two great-grandchildren, Nick and Max. Peggy lived a long and fruitful life, with much happiness and some sorrow. She touched many lives, and her strength, courage and love will live forever through all those she knew and loved. She will be missed but never forgotten. A memorial service will be held at Mary’s Woods, 17360 SW Holy Names Dr., Lake Oswego, OR.,on Tuesday, June 16 at 3 pm.
