August 20th, 1950-November 10th, 2023
Margaret Claire O’Malley “Peggy” was born in Portland, Oregon on August 20th, 1950 to Leo J. O’Malley and Claire G. O’Malley. Her father, mother and brother, Michael O’Malley, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sisters, Ann Sheridan and Lynne O’Malley, as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Peggy was a lifelong Portlander attending Holy Child and U.S. Grant High Schools. She loved sports, in particular, and was the girls High School basketball team captain. She was an avid Trail Blazers fan even naming one of her cats, Clyde, after Blazer, Clyde Drexler. Bowling was another sports activity she really enjoyed and she belonged to a bowling league for many years.
Peggy was kind, funny, helpful, assertive, smart, competitive and passionate about the things, people and animals she loved. She was a wonderful Aunt and an important part of her nieces and nephews lives especially their childhoods.
Peggy’s first work was that of childcare provider reflecting her love for children. As time went on she had a varied career including record keeping and administration at OWNCO, and then as a Customer Accounts Representative for Paragon Cable Company. She then went on to work as Activities Director at a Seniors Home in Beaverton where she was well loved by the residents. It was there that she recognized her passion for working with seniors.
Peggy furthered her education obtaining an Associates Degree of Gerontology from Portland Community College in 2000. Eventually, she started her own business, Shamrock Senior Services, offering support to seniors in the King City area where she lived. She retired in 2020. She was well loved by her clients and neighbors of King City.
When she wasn’t working, you would find Peggy tending her beautiful home garden. Her favorite vacation destination was the Oregon coast where she would go with her beloved dog in tow. She would spend most all her vacations there; she loved nothing more! She was fond of St. Patrick’s Day and was proud of her Irish heritage. She fancied Irish sayings-If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, you’re lucky enough!
