She attended Portland Union Academy now Portland Adventist Academy and Walla Walla College now Walla Walla University.
Her favorite time was spent with her children and family. She had three children – Dan, Cindy and Mindy and two grandsons Austin and Quintin. She had a spontaneous energetic spirit and was up for anything. There are many happy memories of family adventures and world travels. Her children were her life. Marilyn was seen helping at their school events and attended every sporting event of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan. She followed most professional sports particularly tennis, football and basketball. Marilyn was a loyal Portland Trailblazer fan with season tickets. If she was not able to attend a Blazer game, she watched the game on TV.
She was a Christian woman who loved her Heavenly Father and attended Tabernacle Seventh-day Adventist Church. She began playing the organ in the 7th grade for her beloved church and became an accomplished organist.
Marilyn was born at Portland Adventist Medical Center on 60th and Belmont and ended up working for Portland Adventist for 25 years as a clinic manager before retiring in 2014. She lived the mission of Portland Adventist and thoroughly loved her fellow employees and patients of the hospital.
Marilyn is survived by her son Dan Nicholson, Portland Oregon; daughter Mindy Nicholson, Portland Oregon; daughter Cindy Ulloa, son-in-law Bob Ulloa, grandsons Austin Ulloa, and Quintin Ulloa, Troutdale, Oregon; brother Bruce Hegstad, Bel Air, Maryland; sister Loretta (Hegstad) Johnson, Monroe, Washington.
Marilyn truly was the center of her family’s lives. She will forever be in their hearts. Until we meet again!
