Martha Ann Allen, age 89, of Gresham, Oregon passed away March 23, 2023 in her hometown. Martha’s parents, Carl and Lorine Schroeder, welcomed her into the world September 18, 1933, in Port Angeles, Washington. Martha attended Mt. Tabor Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in Portland, Oregon. She went on to attend Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
Martha met her husband-to-be Robert when they were both 19 years old. On August 20, 1955 she married Robert and went on to live in east Multnomah County, raising and caring for her children Laurie and Michael along with a home filled with pets. Martha loved her family and social life shared with neighbors, friends, and coworkers. She always made room for the highlight of the month, “Bunco Night.”
Before motherhood, Martha worked at Bell Telephone, later choosing to be a full-time homemaker, kid wrangler, and family taxi driver as her next career. Once the kids flew the nest, Martha found her dream job working for Portland Rental for the next 22 years. She loved working with people to create the perfect wedding, social event, or special celebration. Everyone she worked with and worked for at Portland Rental always held a special place in her heart.
Martha loved cooking, baking, flower gardening, animals, and above all her grandchildren. Martha and Robert worked together to make their beautiful home and acreage near Oxbow Park the perfect place for their children and grandchildren to play, enjoy the animals, and grow up surrounded by nature. Martha and Robert created many fond memories celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special life events hosted at their home. Martha loved being a part of her grandchildren’s lives, attending swim lessons, countless sporting events, and school activities, just as she had for Laurie and Michael.
Throughout their marriage, Martha and Robert attended services and bible studies at Hinson Memorial Baptist Church, and at Good Shepard Church.
In their early 80s, Martha and Robert moved to Courtyard Fountains Senior Living. In independent living, they enjoyed making new friendships and a retirement lifestyle.
Martha was hospitalized in early February 2023, and later placed in hospice care, passing away on March 23, 2023 at Powell Valley Living.
Martha is survived by her husband of 67 years, Robert Allen and their children Laurie Swan (Steven), Michael Allen (Cindy); grandchildren Jordan Allen (Dawn), Daniel Allen, Sarah Allen (Zack), Renee Farrell (Brian), and great-granddaughter Larken Grimes.
Martha is to be interred at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 1:00 pm. If attending the graveside service, please arrive no later than 12:30 pm.
