Mary Alice Bauder

December 28, 1938 – March 15, 2026

Mary Alice Bauder, beloved wife, mother, Grammy, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born December 28, 1938, to Alice and Ross LeMaster, Mary Alice grew up in Parkland, Washington and was the oldest of four children.

She graduated from Franklin Pierce High School and attended Emmanuel Nursing School in Portland, Oregon. She devoted over 40 years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse, a calling she carried out with skill and compassion.

She met the love of her life, Harold at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church while he was stationed at Fort Lewis in the Army. They married and shared 57 years together, building a life rooted in faith, love and service. After Harold graduated from Concordia Seminary, the two answered a calling to serve as missionaries in the Philippines - an experience that deeply shaped their lives.

Mary Alice was a devoted mother to her four children: Susan (Kirk), John (Diane), Sophia (Bryan), Sigrid (Steve). She was a proud and loving Grammy to Annika, Sophia, Peter; Wyatt and Alegra; Olivia, Spencer, Katie, Seth, Abigail; Bradley and Chloe. Her family was her greatest joy. She poured her love into each generation.

She discovered her lifelong love of horses at age 11 with her beloved Smoky, and that passion stayed throughout her life. She also had a gift for gardening. Her rose gardens were a source of pride and joy. She was known for always having a bouquet to share with family, friends and neighbors.

She played the piano beautifully from a young age and was very musical, also playing the organ, guitar and singing in church choir.

Mary Alice was known for her warmth and hospitality, especially in her kitchen. Her cinnamon rolls, wheat rolls, and pumpkin bread became treasured traditions for family and friends. She carried herself with grace and elegance, often beautifully dressed thanks to her favorite store, Nordstrom.

She is survived by her brother John and was preceded in death by her husband Harold, brother Ross, and sister Sigrid.

Mary Alice will be remembered for her deep faith, kindness, and the love she gave so freely. She was a beautiful reflection of God’s love and will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday April 19 at 2 PM
