Maxine Carol O’Connor passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2022. A lifelong Portland resident, she was born September 1, 1931 to William and Ruby Collins. She graduated from Washington High School in 1950.
In 1951 she married Arthur J. O’Connor in Reno, Nevada. After he passed away in 1978 she worked for a few years for Transamerica Insurance Company.
The day was never long enough for Maxine when she was gardening. She loved reading about plants and planning the next addition to her garden. Spring was her favorite season. For twenty years she took classes and volunteered as a Master Gardener with the OSU Extension Master Gardener program.
In her later years Maxine enjoyed trips to Seaside, Oregon and weekend adventures around Portland and SW Washington. She liked hunting for bargains at thrift stores and yard sales.
Her sense of humor and positive outlook brightened the lives of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Collins, and son Kelly Jay O’Connor. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy O’Connor.
A Celebration of Life for Maxine will be held at a later date.
