was born on July 29, 1931, to Bill and Mary Hickethier in Cedar Mill, Oregon. (Or at least it's believed that he was born in Cedar Mill. He said that he couldn't remember. But He lived in Cedar Mill all his life, so that's probably the place.)
Melvin grew up with a brother named Arthur, a sister named Betty, and another sister named Blanch. He went to Beaverton High School, and then worked in Bonny Slope at the Mushroom Factory. That was where he met his future wife, Mary. Melvin worked at Esco Corporation Steel Foundry in Portland for 20 years. He used to hay for his father in Jewel. He always loved to be on tractors but had to settle for a little lawnmower. He always worked hard, but he never complained.
Though he and Mary didn't give birth to children, they adopted children and made them their own. In retirement, He and Mary bought the place in Hillsboro because she wanted to be close to the hospital.
They were married for a total of 60 years until she passed away in 2018. Melvin loved his dog. He had a hard time getting around because of a bad knee from a motorcycle accident, but he had a happy life. Like Mary, he occasionally visited Bethany Bible Church. He read his Bible often and loved the Lord Jesus.
Melvin passed away on January 23, 2022, at the age of 90. He is survived by:
Son James Jordaine (and wife Summer) of Hillsboro, Oregon, son Robert Jordaine of Aurora, Oregon, daughter Shirley Meza (and husband Michael) of Hillsboro, Oregon, daughter Yvonne Hope of Hillsboro, Oregon, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildre
