

Mike’s journey in life ended as he passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital, in Beaverton, Oregon after he was hospitalized there due to complications from relapsed Acute Myeloid Leukemia on January 16, 2025 at the age of 76.
Mike was born in Portland, Oregon in 1948 to proud parents, Jimmy T. Huey and Wanda C. Huey, living his entire life in the Portland area, but for the last 46 years in Beaverton, Oregon. Three years later his brother Mitch was born providing Mike the job title as the “Big Brother” to little Mitch, a job title he kept for 73 years. The two brothers lived separate individual lives but were inseparable from living in the same house in Beaverton.
Mike attended Glencoe Grade School, John Marshall High School, and graduated with BS in History at Portland State University.
While attending college, Mike worked part-time and eventually full time with United Radio Supply from 1969 to 1978 and then Tektronix Inc. from 1978 to 2010 in inventory control.
Mike was very passionate about amateur radio and for the past 62 years he was known as W7ZI and K7YUR which are his call letters and licenses provided by the FCC. He was classified as an Amateur Extra, the highest class attainable. Mike has chatted with hundreds of other amateur radio operators around the world. Mike had many accolades and awards from ARRL for his ham radio accomplishments.
Mike’s other passion was East coast/West coast swing dancing. He became very proficient and a skilled dancer and very popular dance partner. He was affiliated with Bridgetown Swing Club and Portland Swing Dance Club often volunteering during their functions.
Mike was also into social clubs, such as Baby Boomers and Bergfreunde Ski Club. He often volunteered during club events. He was Bergfreunde Club historian.
Mike enjoyed watching numerous sports such as NFL football, NHL hockey, International Soccer. He also enjoyed local sports teams such as Portland Winterhawks, Blazers, and Timbers.
Mike is survived by his younger brother Mitchell F. Huey, Aunt Yin Yuk, Uncle Ying Chin, Cousins Anita Chin, William Chin (Amy) and their extended family, Cousins Thomas Louie (Mylan), Gayle(Richard), Joyce, Beverly, Patty, Roger(Karrie), Susan, Marilee, Margaret, and numerous others cousins.
At Mike’s request there will be no services.
Visitation for Mike will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home from 2pm-6pm.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or Providence St Vincent Medical Foundation.
