Patricia A. McPheeters was born in Burns, Oregon to parents Elwood “Mac” and Anita (Slade) McPheeters on August 19, 1935. She had one sibling, a sister, Nancy. As a small child, Pat and her family moved to Baker, Oregon for a short period and then relocated to the Portland, Oregon area where Pat lived for the rest of her life.
Pat exchanged wedding vows with Charles E. Guse on February 4, 1955, in Vancouver, Washington. Pat and Chuck had two children, a son, Todd; and a daughter, Leianne. Not only was Pat a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker- she entered the work force when her children were in high school. First she worked for Lipman’s department store and later she pursued a career in banking and ultimately retired as a banker for Bank of America.
Pat will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed being involved in many projects where she had the opportunity to be social; to connect with and to serve others. She volunteered for countless projects when her children were in school, she taught sewing in 4H, and she belonged to many quilting groups. She also was a member of many bowling teams over the years.
Pat was a life-long devoted Portland Trail Blazers Fan. Pat will also be remembered as an elegant “together” woman who never left the house unless she looked her best. Pat was an ardent shopper, and, it has been said, a “professional” shopper, except that she was not actually paid to shop. She enjoyed travel and made many, many memorable car trips with Chuck. They visited Alberta, Canada at least a dozen times. A highlight of those trips was the Banff-Jasper Ice field Parkway. The two also visited Victoria B.C. and Pat especially enjoyed tea time at the Empress Hotel. She also visited Alaska, once with her sister Nancy and once with her best friend Ruth.
Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, and will be dearly missed.
Pat is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Chuck; her son, Todd Guse; her Daughter, Leianne Duke (husband Steve); sister, Nancy Roberts; grandchildren Adam and Kristopher Duke; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Funeral Ceremony followed by a Reception will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 1:00 pm in Skyline Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home Chapel, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon, 97229 (503) 292-6611
Remembrances may be made in Pat’s Honor to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research – www.michaeljfox.org
Heaven's Back Yard
Fragrant Rose of Sharon
Borders every side
Lily of the Valley
Forever here abides
Nature is perfected
And peace no better known
Than here in Heaven's back yard
My new forever home
Friends and family gather
never more to part
from joyful celebration
There are no broken hearts
Please don't be bowed down with grief
the way has been made clear
Heaven's bounty all around
Is waiting for you here
