Our dear Pat was a true Midwesterner, born in Murdock, Nebraska on May 1, 1930 to Clifford and Pearl (Parks) Richardson. She was quiet, understated, thoughtful, pleasant, and always beautifully-dressed. Her father tired of farming and took the family west to Portland, Oregon where his son Floyd lived.
Pat finished high school, graduating from Jefferson, and continued her education at Chapman College (now University) in Los Angeles. While in college, she volunteered with the USO. Her future husband Larry was in the Navy and stationed nearby and, wanting a diversion one night, attended a USO dance. The early dance that evening was a mixer, and when the music stopped Larry and Pat were partners. The dancing must have been good, as he asked to take her home, but she said it was against the rules but that she could meet him the next day at church. And so it was that the two were married later that year, on November 10th, 1951.
After Larry’s discharge from the Navy, both accepted various jobs that took them from Virginia to Okinawa and points in between. The move to Portland took place in 1960 and was in time for their son Michael’s birth, followed by the arrival of Ron in 1962. It wasn’t many years later that their home was full of music from all four!
Pat continued to enjoy Larry’s “looking for greener pastures” viewpoint, moving to Roseburg, Longview, WA, and then returning to settle in SE Portland. They became members of Tabor Heights United Methodist church in 1967. Music was a big part of Pat’s life. She served both as organist and as church secretary for six pastors, sang in the choir with Larry, and was part of a trio with friends Georgia Koehler and Joyce Doering. In addition, she sang in a quartet which performed in a variety of events.
Always finding time for time together after retirement, cold weather found the two in the Palm Springs and continuing to enjoy cruises and other travel excursions.
Recently, poor health separated Pat and Larry as they lived in various health care facilities, but they were together again in an apartment at Courtyard Senior Living until Pat’s passing on March 24, 2023 at the age of 92.
Pat is survived by her husband of 71 years Larry, their two sons Mike and Ron, along with grandsons Steven and Kenny.
Pat, we will all miss you.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 14 at 2:00 pm at Tabor Heights United Methodist Church.
Patricia Marilyn (Richardson) Regan will be laid to rest privately in Willamette National Cemetery.
