

Richard was raised in Nebraska until the family moved to Dundee Oregon in his youth. He attended Newberg high school where he graduated from and was an active teammate on the Newberg Tigers baseball team. He met his son-to-be wife at Newberg High and got married in 1959.
He joined the Army on July 14, 1959. He was stationed in Germany and Texas as a sharpshooter. He received a Good Conduct Medal during his service and was discharged from the Army in 1962.
After the Army he worked as a builder, handyman, scrapper, and carpenter.
He was not a religious man, but a man of faith that had his own relationship with the Lord.
From his experience as a sharpshooter in the Army, he won a first-place silver plaque award for his marksmanship and a distinguished badge and a marksmanship badge.
After retirement Richard kept himself busy by continuing to scrap metal and on more relaxed days, you could find him bird watching at home or in nature.
Richard was known to say, “Glad you got to see me.” This is a saying that the family will cherish and miss.
Richard will be best remembered as a man of his word and very matter of fact on where he stood on any issue. He will also be reminded of how he loved working on things and would gladly offer his assistance to anyone who needed it. He was always there for you and willing to help however he could. The love he has for his family and especially his grandchildren who brought him his greatest joy.
Richard is survived by his ex-wife Doris, his son Steven and Rick, daughter Vickie, and his grandchildren, Colby, Paige. And Laura, and his great-grandchildren, Warren and Wayne.
There will be a committal service at Willamette National Cemetery on December 17, 2025 at 1pm, followed by a reception and memory share at Brix Tavern at 3pm.
