

Richard Chan passed away at the age of 95 on October 1st, 2017 with family by his side. Richard was born in Seattle, WA and lived most of his life in Detroit, MI. He attended the University of Detroit where he obtained a degree in chemical engineering but worked as a mechanical engineer in the automotive industry for his entire career. He met & married Madeline in Hong Kong in 1948, returning to Detroit to begin his career & start his family. He retired in 1988 and thereafter enjoyed traveling the world and visiting his family around the country. In 2008 Richard & Madeline moved to Portland, OR to a retirement community where they formed many friendships, and enjoyed many activities & excursions.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 69 years, Madeline; sons Vincent (Kerstin), Arlo (Virginia), Wiley (Minh-Chau), Michael (Helen), Bruce (Toni) and daughter Carrie; grandchildren Eric (Janette), Wyatt, Nathan, Dustin, Linley and Laine; great-grandson Calvin; sister Bali Tang; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brother William.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 7th from 2 to 4 PM at the retirement community of Town Center Village, 8607 SE Causey Ave., Happy Valley, OR 97086. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the American Red Cross.
